Identifying Registered Roads

Post by tom.want »

I am wondering what is the best way to find out which roads are actual registered roads. Ideally I'd like to see actual maps of road networks.

The only way I have found up to now is to check in DLS if the road separate with green lines from adjacent parcels. If that road is clicked with the Identify tool, you will not get a parcel tab with sheet/plan, registration number, etc

Is this way any good? Is there any better way?

One problem of this way is that the Identify tool doesn't actually tell you that it is a registered road, just that it is not a parcel. But it could be a river or something else. So you have to check sattelite imagery to see if there an ashpalt or dirt road, then check DLS to see if there is no parcel, then it *might* be a registered roads. There's got to be a better way?

Answering to my own thread here because I found something useful: DLS offer a download of the 2016 roads as a shape file. That's a geospatial vector format which can be imported into various programs including Google Earth. Very useful, but 2016:

When you find the plot you're interested in, look at the map. You'll see the local roads.

You will also check out access to the plot.

For the benefit of other forum members I wanted to post another way I found, which is a lot more convenient. In DLS switch over from the default Cadastral Map to the Topographic Map. In the Table of Contents make sure the option to show the Road Network is checked. You might need to uncheck several other layers in order to be able to see the road network.
