Swimming Pool Construction

Hi Nigel

Do you know if a fence was required on complex pools from day one of the 1993 Cyprus Law or whether at some stage after the law was amended to include a fence ?
We have no fence but the Municipality are insisting that we erect one.My contention is that if a fence was required by law, the Developer should have erected a fence at his cost the time of construction.Further more the Municipality should not have issued a building permit if a fence was not indicated on the building application plans submitted to the municipality.

Whats your take on this ?

I've looked through the database of laws and regulations at https://cylaw.org/ and there have been no amendments to either since they were introduced in 1992 and 1996 respectively.

As far as I can see, there is no law or regulation that requires a public pool to be fenced.

I suggest you ask the Municipality to provide you with the legal references.

There's an article in Cyprus Mail. It looks as things are going to change - Upgraded swimming pool legislation expected in parliament.
