Revised/new title deeds?

Post by kade12 »

Hello Nigel,i have posted on here prevoiusly about the problems i have had with a very old property we have bought (with title deeds)and who owned our front garden. However at long last (7/8 months)our permit for the improvements have now been approved, irrespective of who owns the garden. We have been told,in a bar of course that now we are changing it from a 2 bed 2 bath to a 4 bed 3 bath that NEW title deeds will have to be issued.Perish the thought Nigel,is this correct?

Hi Terry,

The Land Registry will only have to issue new Title Deeds if your 'extra' bit of land is incorporated. If they are just amending your existing Title Deed to include your house, it shouldn't take them too long (by Cyprus standards).

Thanks Nigel for your reply. I assume you mean that new ammended title deeds will have to be issued. Can you guestimate,i now thats hard to do on how long ammended title deeds will take.Do they go along the same officialdom as normal title deeds do.If they do,at my age i will probably be shaking hands with the grim reaper before they arrive. regards Terry Liversidge

Hi Terry

It's a bit like asking how long is a bit of string. If your permits have been approved then I believe the property will need to be inspected to ensure it complies with those permits - This could take 6 - 18 months. Once that been achieved the Title needs updating - say a further 6 - 12 months.

I suggest you go back to the bar and have a word with your 'unofficial' source as I'm not too sure of the process when you make changes to an existing property.
