fees for property sale

Post by jojo »

Having just completed the sale of my Cyprus property and having been told that on top of my solicitors fees for sale the only other expenses would be any outstanding utility bills and village taxes (I assume cae etc)

However I have also being charged for 1) copies, stamps, etc. 2) power of attorney - stamps and certification
3) lodge power of attorney to the land registry 4) fee for "Communal board of Polis Chrysochous" whatever that means?

Grand total 288.53 euro

Also original fee for handling sale increased by 25% of what was put in writing?

Would appreciate comments

Thanks in advance JoJo

Hi JoJo

These fees are known as 'disbursements' - these are that your lawyer has paid to other individuals/organisations during the process of selling your property. Disbursements do not form part of your lawyer's own costs or charges.

The fee for "Communal board of Polis Chrysochous" are possibly the local community tax - or perhaps a tax that some local authorities are now taking on rental property.

Hi Nigel, thanks for info, since I posted this I did get an update and got the 25% increase knocked off
However it would just be nice if they came up front with these fees.
Anyway the sale has gone through now and I can breath a sigh of relief.
For all I complain I have had 11 good years in Cyprus
Let us hope the European union does not destroy their unique culture.

You're too late - grilled Halloumi (which I like almost as much as Stilton) no longer has the added tang of goat droppings :-)

It's good that you've managed to get a sale - 11 years ago property prices were still 'reasonable' and I guess your build quality was also good.
