Fences

Post by emgee »

Nigel

Is there any hard-fast rule on who owns a fence between two detached villas please? We have our Deeds but can't find any mention on them about ownership of fences.

We want to replace our Developer rope and post pence with something more substantial, but if its not ours....

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan

I'm not sure of the situation here, but in the UK if the supports are on your side the fence is 'yours'. As you've got a rope fence, I guess there aren't any supports? You might want to put up a fence just on your side to get around the problem - but there are restrictions on the height - 1.2 metres from ground level I believe. You could plant some shrubs to hide the wall and increase your privacy.

I believe the height restrictions are 1.8m between neighbours and 1.2m facing a public road.

Can't comment ownership of fence as there is not enough info, sorry.
