Unfortunately, the Land Registry will not give out the information unless you are an 'interested party' - but that is different if you know them or have contacts.

There's an article in my magazine at http://www.news.cyprus-property-buyers. ... /id=004888 about a new procedure Andreas Symeou introduced before he retired.

Cheers,
Nigel,

if you get one of the agents to fill in the form and tell them you are interested to purchase that plot, I doubt the actual clerks would ask questions.

That would be an interested party.

If you live in an area and wanted to know who owns a plot the muktars office can usually help.

But yes if you have contacts it does help.

Hi Nigel,
Just wanted to update in case it was of any use to anyone....
Firstly my Cyta problem was not due to paying a deposit, but because the previous owner didn't clear the bill, so we could not take over the line. Their solution was to run new set of wires into the house - TO ADD TO THE FOUR ALREADY THERE. Unbelieveable really! Anyway, that should be cut off this month (purchase in May) and resolved. Out of interest, the water and refuse were also not paid, obviously not checked by our solicitor - again fabulous!
However, my major problem is still paying transfer property tax. the land registry valued my property at 250000 above what we paid for it, 100000 above the vendor's asking price and what the surveyor valued it at!
The letter from the land registry stated they based their valuation on-visiting the property-similar properties sold in the area & our valuation.
Of course, I hold the only set of keys and you cannot see the property from the road - so I know categorically there was no visit.
There are very few properties similar in our area, and none have been sold in a very long time, and no evidence was provided.
Finally, our surveyor valuation is 100000 less than theirs, so is also counter to their arguement. Not even the vendor thought it was worth what they are suggesting.
I'm faced with the dilemma of fighting and maybe winning, but spending the money on solicitors fees (solicitor not dazzaling me) or paying both! I'm actually angry at being sent a legal document so blatently full of (for a better word) lies.
I love our beautiful house. But is it flagrant corruption/fraud or stupidity that is ruining my happy feelings?
Anyway on a plane over in a few days, will wear my boxing gloves and Dr Martens boots.....
Enjoyed reading through other people's angst's, great website.
Emma
