capital restrictions...
Hi all
Just a quick question if you don't mind.
What is the situation with capital restrictions for funds being transferred to Cyprus now?
We would like to make a transfer but if our purchase falls through or if we have funds left over then, obviously we'd like to send the funds back to the UK

Thanks for your comment. I think it would be wise to wait longer.
The speculative bubble of the Cypriot property market has burst but is not fully deflated yet.
We will follow the events as the unfold over the next few weeks and months.

Re: to buy or to build?
Some additional thoughts
We were surprised by the volatility of the property prices. Plots discounted by 30-40%, with another 20-30% potentially off by negotiation. One house we saw for 470k, had a beautiful finish was close to another which was listed for 900k (similar specification, though we ...

Re: to buy or to build?
Conclusion
We felt that viewing built houses was necessary - just to see what could be had for a given price.
We didn't really warm to any of the houses, although we were satisfied with the build quality.
On the other hand, the plots and the idea of a build is actually more problematic.

my wife and I have recently returned from our reconnaissance trip.
our objective was to view some plots and built property to compare.

Re: to buy or to build?
I think he meant 200,000 to 320,000...
It's more useful to quote cost per square metre perhaps, since the overall size of the dwelling can vary dramatically.
My own research suggests a cost of 800 to 1500 per square metre, depending on the choice of materials and quality of finish
What do you think?

Re: to buy or to build?
Hi Andrea, thanks for your comments.
What we have in mind is a more tailored project.
We would like to source a plot, and use an independent set of contractors to carry out the phases of the build.
Ideally, we would prefer completely independent professionals - eg architect, builders, carpenters ...

Re: to buy or to build?
Thanks Nigel
Since we can't spend too much time away from the UK, a project manager is essential
The trouble is finding someone who is independent and trustworthy
The first step is to view some plots and re-sale villas initially, and we're doing that next month
Thanks once again!

to buy or to build?
Hi, new to this forum so thanks for any advice...
My wife and I would like to have a holiday home in Cyprus, probably in the Paphos / Limassol region
We're in no hurry to find the right property, and perhaps building our dream holiday villa is on the cards as well...
