Contradictory Lease

Some 9 months ago my landlord granted me a lease for 5 years that is clearly stated, but further on is a clause that states either party can give 2 months notice of termination.
My landlords solicitors have now issued a eviction notice referring to this clause.
Surely this is illegal ? Are they tring to scare me with reference to damages payable if I do not surrender the property on said date ?
Any advice welcome

Hi exxpo and welcome to the forum.
It looks as if they are trying to scare you into leaving the property. I suggest you speak with your lawyer.
Do they give any reason for issuing you with an eviction notice?

Hello Exxpo,
you have lost me a little here. If you have agreed to a 2 months notice of termination, I don't see what the issue is. Surely the land lord is exercising his right to this clause? Unless I have missed something.
Also, why would you sign a 5 year contract with a 2 month termination clause??
Am I understanding this right?

Is this a residential or commercial lease? However as Pantheman says, how can you have a 5 year lease that can be terminated in 2 months

Seeing the other replies, I may have misunderstood. I assumed that you had been issued with an eviction notice rather than 2-months notice as per your rental agreement?
