inheritance laws cyprus

Post by ZOE »

over 20 years ago my husband transferred the our property in to my name only. we have 2 children both at university. My husband was married before and has 3 children from his first marriage. if he died would the children of his first marraige be entitled to anything under cypriot law even though i am the owner of the property now and the title deed is in my name? I ask this question as someone said it could be possible. If this is so would leaving a will be helpful. thanks zoe

Welcome to the forum Zoe.

As the property is registered solely in your name, if your husband passed away his chidren from an earlier marriage would have no claim on the house. (However they would have a claim on any of his other assets in Cyprus).

Even so, I suggest that you both make Wills without delay.

Thanks Nigel for your reply. Could I ask if it would be the same if my husband already owned the property before we married solely before transferring all to me .?. In other words he already had the property before we married. Would this make any difference?
Thanks zoe.

No it wouldn't make any difference as the property is now registered solely in your name.
