Due Diligence on Lawyers

Post by Sailorpete »

Five law firms in Paphos have expressed their interest in representing my wife and me in purchasing a resale villa. Before hiring one of them, we would like to perform due diligence with respect to each firm. Specifically, we are interested in knowing if they have ever been disciplined by the Cyprus Bar Association, sued by clients and for what reason, and accused or indicted for criminal activity. Is this kind of information publicly available and, if so, where should we go to get it? Since we are in the United States, our search can only be done online.

Unfortunately Sailorpete, the only thing you can is search their name on Google. The decisions of the Cyprus Bar Association are shrouded in secrecy. Unlike the US (and the UK) the results of their disciplinary proceedings are not publicly available.

If you send me a pm, I can let you know if I've received any reports or have any information about them.
