Choosing a Solicitor

Post by Ninja »

Hi,

Can anyone help us with choosing a reputable solicitor please?

We have reserved a property in Paphos and have been given the names of two solicitors. One from the agent Buy/Sell, Loli Constantinides and another idependant one, Kristos Erotokritou. Has anyone come across them? We would rather not exhaust a new list, just these two if anyone had ever used them.

Also, one is telling us we do not need to notarise our passports for power of attourney (we live in UK) and the other says we must.

One more thing, both have informed us that the land registry? In many cases, challenges the value of the property. Has anyone else had to deal with this?

Thanks to anyone who can help us.

Hi Jane and welcome to the forum

I suggest that you use one of the lawyers on the list provided by the British High Commission in Nicosia.

If you are not in Cyprus to handle things yourselves then you will need appoint a lawyer (or someone else) to act as your Power of Attorney (PoA). The lawyer should be able to send you the necessary document. You must sign this in the presence of a Certifying Officer at one of the Cyprus Government offices in the UK - he will verify who you say you are by checking your passports before he/she countersigns the PoA.
