Lift maintenance

Post by rollwithit »

Dear Nigel,

how are you, keeping well I hope. Thank for your recent assistance, you have been very helpful.

Could I ask your advise again please: What is the current law regarding the maintenance of lifts. We need to ensure that we are
not under maintaining our lifts in our complex. However we do not wish to overspend in this area if its not required either. Does the current law specify how often a lift must be maintained or serviced?

Also can you advise a reputable registered company who can service all kinds of lifts regardless who the makers are?

Can you refer me to the law referring to lifts compliance regulations or are they regulated by the EU?

Again thanks for your help.

Dear Rollwithit,

There is information on the Cyprus Department of Labour Inspection website. If you visit http://www.mlsi.gov.cy/mlsi/dli/dli.nsf ... L=E&e=&i=1 you will find several documents relating to the legislation on lifts. Some of these are in Greek, others in English.

You will also find a couple of useful documents at http://www.mlsi.gov.cy/mlsi/dli/dli.nsf ... enDocument (English)

There are a number of other pages – these are in Greek, use Google translation:

http://www.cyprus.gov.cy/moi/pio/pio.ns ... enDocument – ‘Public consultation on new Regulations on the Operation, Maintenance and Control of Elevators’ dated 22nd February 2010

http://www.mlsi.gov.cy/mlsi/dli/dli.nsf ... enDocument refers to the Safety and Health at Work (Operation, Maintenance and Lift Control ) Regulations 2010 and links to:

http://www.mlsi.gov.cy/mlsi/dli/dli.nsf ... enDocument (There is a list of documents at the foot of the page, the first of which ‘lifts guidelines’ is in English).

Some of the documents contain references to EU Directives on the subject, so you will need to do some further digging.

Regarding reputable companies, I do not know of any, but they are all registered by the government. If you contact the Department of Labour Inspection on 22405623, they should be able to help.
