I live in Canada but my parents were born in Greece. In 1998, while on a trip to Paros, I was able to obtain my national greek ID. I also have an AFM (tax ID). Would this be sufficient to purchase a property in Cyprus? If not, does anyone know how I could obtain my Greek passport while in Canada? Thanks very much!
You can purchase a property in Cyprus with or without any Greek ID/Passport
If you have a Greek ID then that should be sufficient anyway, you do not necessarily need a passport to do this.
The only other place to get a passport from Canada is via the Greek Embassy if they have one there.

You will also need permission from the Council of Ministers to own property - and your choice of what you can buy will be limited.

Nigel, she states that she has a Greek ID. This will make her an EU citizen, she can present this upon entry!! And as an EU citizen she can purchase whatever she wants and remain as long as she wants!!

Entry regulations apply only to the areas controlled by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus.
A passport is required by all travellers, except for holders of:
- Laissez-Passer issued by the United Nations.
- Document issued to stateless persons and recognised refugees.
Further to the above, citizens of the European Union (EU) countries, as well as of Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway may enter Cyprus with their national identity card, provided there is a photograph.

Thank you so much for the information. I suspected a Greek passport would not be required for a purchase in Cyprus as I am an EU citizen. Nevertheless, I will see if I can manage to get a one in Canada
