Bank forms to say if tax paid in UK or Cyprus

Post by susiecoo »

Hi there.

Can I ask if banks still send out forms for completion, to say whether tax is paid in Cyprus or UK please?
I'm UK based but not received anything and not sure how things are done now.

Thank you.

Hi susiecoo

I've lived in Cyprus for 20 years in April and I've never received a form from the bank as you describe.

You can see the forms issued by the Bank of Cyprus by clicking here.

Which bank are you with?

Hi Nigel.

I’ve probably got confused over who it came from then. We used to get a form towards the end of the year around October for completion by end November roughly. It asked details of our stays that given year etc. We live in the UK and it was something do with knowing if we had to pay towards defence etc?

Sorry but for the life of me I can’t remember what it was called. It just came to me as I’m sitting in my Covid sick bed. We sold but purchased again last year after a break and didn’t want charges that aren’t applicable.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi susiewong

I hope you make a speedy recovery from COVID with none of the long-Covid problems.

I expect this all dates back to when you registered for tax to pay the (now defunct) Immovable Property Tax. The 'Special Contribution for Defence' only applies to people who are resident in Cyprus - this would not apply to you as you're UK resident.

I wouldn't worry about it - focus on getting well.
