Title Deeds extra expenses

Post by villaowner »

We have the option to purchase our title deeds. However the developer is asking us to pay for the property taxes he has paid since we purchased the property in 2002. The sum is over 1000 euros ! He has not provided any receipts or proof of this expenditure. Should i pay without question ?What should my next step be ?

If you read your Contract, you will see that he has paid them on your behalf since 2002 and in Order to get your Title deeds, he wants paying for them. He should provide you with the 1980 value of your property and the % rates for the 13 year period you have occupied the property.

Hello villaowner and welcome to the forum.

I suggest you read http://www.cyprus-property-buyers.com/law/tax.htm on how to handle this situation.

Hello Villaowner.

You could take the steps that Nigel has out lined above, however, I would take a somewhat different approach.

Your title deeds are ready to be transferred to your name, you have waited 13 years for them, if your transfer them you really will be a Villa Owner for sure :)

1000E over 13 years is just 77E which I am sure is quite a low figure, he could have added interest if he wanted to! Do you really want to put the spanner in the works at this time for the sake of 1000E? By getting your deeds you are also protecting your initial investment.

Personally, I would pay it, put it down to experience and just another cost to buying and get those deeds asap.

The choice is yours.

Good luck

We do not have the figures, do not just pay out willy-nilly.

Emgee,

he said over 1000E, meaning, to me between 1000 - 1500 otherwise he would have said over 2000 or thousands.

Is someone says over a thousand I look at it to be 1200 or so.

Anyway, what I said is what I would do, each to their own.
