To register the committee of a resort with 90 apartments (no title deeds available yet), do you need to use a lawyer? If so, who would they register the committee with, is it the Land Registry? Is there an administration charge involved from the Land Registry?
I have heard a figure of €30+VAT per apartment mentioned where a lawyer is involved. Does this sound like a reasonable charge if this figure is correct and if so would you expect each owner to pay this charge? What if some owners refuse to pay?

Re: General Property
Hi SimonG,
You'll find a copy of the law in English that will help guide you through the process of setting up a Management Committee at http://www.cyprus-property-buyers.com/f ... gs-law.pdf
And the Department of Lands & Surveys 'Citizen's Charter' at http://cdn.cyprus-property-buyers.com/w ... harter.pdf on pages 20 and 21 - the Department has revised it's fees and you can find their latest list of charges at http://cdn.cyprus-property-buyers.com/w ... _12_13.pdf
I suggest you engage the services of a lawyer to help you though the process and make sure everything is done correctly. Suggest you get in touch with a couple of those on the list provided by the British High Commission in Nicosia - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... mplate.pdf and get competitive quotes for the work.
Regards,

We have had a Committee for 7 years, never had it registered, why get involved with costs that you don't have to pay. Our Committee works very well and our complex is very neat and tidy and everything runs smoothly.

Re: General Property
Hi Alan
The problem comes if you need to take action against one of the owners for non-payment. If you're not registered, which simply involves advising the Land Registry of your existence by sending them a letter rubber-stamped with the seal of the Management Committee, taking legal action will be 'difficult'.
But while everyone behaves themselves it's no problem.

We obtained the services of a UK registered debt-collection agency and they collected the debt.
My Lawyer told me that the Cyprus Bar Assn was quite happy for us Brits to run ourselves without getting them involved in minor disputes which only cost everyone loads in the long run.

Re: General Property
Thanks Alan,
That's very useful to know - and you get the money immediately rather than putting a 'memo' on the title.
It would be good if I could publish a blow by blow account of how to go about this in Cyprus Property News - could you help with that please?
