TV from England to Cyprus

Post by slwright »

Does it work or do we have to buy a new one when we get to Cyprus? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Sheila,

Most new TVs will work in Cyprus. The sound operates on a different frequency and most modern TVs will allow you to change this via their menus.

Although you will still be able to receive a picture on an older TV set, you may not be able to hear the sound and may not be able to change the frequency setting via the remote. There are two things you can do:
  • Get a new sound chip installed.

Using a scart lead, connect your TV to a cheap DVD player/VCR , and use the DVD/VCR to select the channels.

You're welcome Sheila,

The vast majority of TV programs here are in Greek - but there are some English-language films shown as well.

There are numerous companies selling satellite packages with English programmes, but if you want SKY, you'll need a very large dish!!

Thanks again Nigel, I expect we will just use it to watch dvds occasionally anyway but you have been very helpful.

All the best
Sheila
