Energy Performance requirements

Post by bailey10 »

Hi Nigel,

Do you know if the district office apply the latest energy performance laws to houses which were built before 2017 but are still without full title deeds ?
Our developer walked away and did not apply for building permits for some houses on our development and so the owners would need to apply for these to get title deeds.
Would these houses be treated as new buildings and so need to meet the latest energy standards such as having wall and roof insulation etc even though they were built many many years ago to the standards at that time?
The cost of these works would be many thousands of pounds to retrofit and so make title deeds out of reach or are they treated as existing buildings?

Hi Bailey10

I can't help you with this one as I don't have the specialised knowledge. The architect who's helping with the building permits should be able to advise - alternatively a specialist in the field.

In 2012 I published an article with the name of a company that could help - Energy Performance Certificates.
