Re: title deeds in an apartment block
Hi Lizzie, Providing your developer provides you with the necessary documents, you may be able to claim some of the Immovable Property Tax back from the Inland Revenue once you have your Title Deeds. There's an article in my magazine at http://www.news.cyprus-property-buyers.com/2008/10/19/immovable...

Re: Lawyer not providing copy of Agreement - what now?
Hi kirby, I cannot add anything to what Pan has suggested - this woman should have her licence removed. One thing I would suggest is that you write a letter of complaint to the Bar Association. The more complaints they receive, the more likely they are to do something about it. (See http://www.cypru...

Re: Electric Poles
Hi Dave,
You should visit AHK customer services (with your Title Deed) and ask why they didn't contact you about their intention to erect the pole.

Re: Developer mortgage
Hi rollwithit Unfortunately, these unethical lending practices by the Cyprus banks are very common!!! You do not have to worry about those loans that were taken out after your contract was deposited. However, if any of the loans existed before your contract was deposited, then if the developer goes ...

Re: Illegal letting
Hi Kirby, If the apartment block was specifically built for tourist/holiday lettings then the builder may have applied for the licences. Such blocks have to be inspected by the Fire Department and various signage is needed before it will issue the necessary certificates. The Department works closely...

Re: title deeds in an apartment block
If you purchase your title deeds for the apartment that is within a development, and others within the development do not purchase theirs, can the developer still remortgage the land that the development is on? No. He cannot remortgage the land. However, he will be able to reschedule/extend any loa...

Re: Illegal letting
Hi kirby, Under Cyprus Tourist Laws, property lettings of less than 30 days are not permitted unless the owner of the property has a licence. But like many of the laws in Cyprus, the authorities appear either unwilling or unable to ensure that it’s enforced. You can read more about this in my magazi...

Re: Electric Poles
Hi Dave, What AHK does when someone requests supply and lines & poles have to be installed is to write to the landowners asking permission to cross/erect poles on their land. If they do not hear from those landowners, they go ahead with the installation. (But whether you agree/disagree to the poles/...

Re: Wining in Court
Hi Jessica, In Cyprus there are some very effective measures in place for extracting money awarded by the court. The most effective method is to ' memo ' all properties and land owned by the judgment debtor. This leaves the debtor unable to raise a mortgage or sell any of their properties unless the...

Re: Communal village taxes
Hi Blackbird and welcome to the forum,
You should only pay the local taxes for your property. Has anyone else received a similar demand?
There is also a tax payable to the local authority if you rent your property - would this be applicable in your case?

Re: rising damp
Hi Sonia and welcome to the property forum. Providing you are happy with the work your lawyer is undertaking on your behalf, there is no need to cancel the arrangement. Rising damp is probably the most common problem in Cyprus. Concrete acts like a wick drawing moisture out of the ground and into th...

Re: Lawers, Developers, Banks!!
By the sounds of it it has to me the lawyer 'L' from Paphos?? Someone needs to be doing something about this person. I was contacted last week by someone who has complained to the Cyprus Bar Association about the lawyer you mention. The lawyer is appearing in front of the CBA disciplinary board on ...
