Re: Claiming the VAT back
It sounds too good to be true! What are the implications for claiming the VAT back? Hi raven - rule of thumb - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There's an article in the Financial Times about claiming VAT back on a property at Am I due VAT refunds from holiday homes? . I suggest yo...

I agree with Nigel, you need professional advice on this, not some indivual opinions that may or may not be correct.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: to buy or to build?
JohnI, welcome, thats an excellent post and well articulated. My builder was also very excellent, infact all the tradesmen were AA standard, the only person who let us down was the aluminium man, and he was a very close family friend. Stay away from family and friends trades people, as you may find ...

Re: Ammendment to Swiss Franc Mortgage
The best advice is to seek professional le advice, not some opinion on a forum. Given we do not have the agreement to scrutinise and are not privey to any of your groups goings on, then I don't see how anyone can give an informed input. Sorry to hear about your problem, but speak to your lawyer is t...

Re: Title Deed Transfer Tax
See it from the point of view of a single with no partner/joint purchaser. They buy the same piece of land or property as the joint purchaser but, in your example they are charged €25,165 instead of €18,331 which the couple pay in total, or €14,874 which three people pay. This doesn’t happen with S...

Re: Land in the North
Andria, The IPC (Immovable Property Commision) was a body set up by Turkey ( to con the GCs) and approved by the ECHR, who didn't want the responsibility to deal with the thousands of cases. For this you would have to go to the north side. You would need a Turkish speaking lawyer to do the 'dirty' w...

Re: Land in the North
Dear Andria, welcome to the forum. The ony thing you might consider is applying to the turkish IPC for compensation. The deadline for applications is Dec 2012 (it was extended from last year), otherwise if it doesn't get extended you will not be able to anything until an agreed cyprus settlement. Th...

Re: to buy or to build?
I think he meant 200,000 to 320,000... It's more useful to quote cost per square metre perhaps, since the overall size of the dwelling can vary dramatically. My own research suggests a cost of 800 to 1500 per square metre, depending on the choice of materials and quality of finish What do you think...

I am guessing you mean 200,000 to 320,000 euro to build a house??
or you mean 200 - 320 euro /m2?? Because I find this very hard to believe.

Re: Hello from Yorkshire
Hello and welcome TommyB, I think you may have just answered your own question with the offer you had. As Nigel says now is NOT a good time to sell but it is a GOOD time to buy. It is all relative, if you wish to buy at a low price, then you must expect to get a low price for your too. offers coming...

Re: Land separation problem
A share of the land can be given within a matter of days or even a couple of weeks. You will have to pay transfer fees though. With regards to the 600m2, it can't cost that much, it would be agricultural land and they had a responsibility to give you a seperate title. Try 'scaring' them with leagl a...

Re: Land separation problem
Pantheman, Thank you for your reply. Just to clarify we purchased an existing house on the land not just the land. We have all the permissions for the house and the separation was intended to remove it from the family plot thus providing our title deeds. Suing a solicitor is a daunting task here al...

Re: to buy or to build?
Thanks Nigel Since we can't spend too much time away from the UK, a project manager is essential The trouble is finding someone who is independent and trustworthy The first step is to view some plots and re-sale villas initially, and we're doing that next month Thanks once again! Re: Land separation problem
You must be talking about agricultural land. No it is not new, the 2000m2 min is very generous, if that is what they told you. Agricultural land cannot just be subdivided ad-hoc, there are conditions that apply. Who sold you the land?? If a registered agent, they you may have grounds to sue his insu...
