Re: IPT - Joint Ownership

Hi cliffyamo, That's correct - the law was changed by a slim majority in Parliament yesterday (see http://www.news.cyprus-property-buyers.com/2013/09/27/money-off-your-immovable-property-tax-bill/id=0014973 ). If a property is owned by two people in equal shares that has a 1980 value of €25,000 or ...

Re: IPT - Joint Ownership

Hi Tonto and welcome to the forum. As the law stands today both you and your wife are required to pay the minimum charge of €75 each. But the Council of Ministers (the cabinet) has agreed a number of changes: Remove the minimum tax payment of €75. Owners of properties whose total 1980 value is no m...

Re: Minister boldly goes where no-one has gone before

" The Title Deeds of many foreign buyers are held by the banks as security for loans given to developers and there is nothing the government could do about this as this is considered a private contractual difference between the buyer and developer that could only be settled in court." "The Ministry...

a bank waiver for a developers mortgaged land

Dear Nigel, To use a quote from yourself previously; Quote "It is perfectly legal, in certain circumstances, for a developer to mortgage the land on which he's built even though part of the project may have been sold - and paid for in full. Although you have the right of Specific Performance, you ca...

Re: opening a cyprus bank account

I have now opened a sterling Bank Accout and Euro Account with the Bank Of Cyprus.
You need at least your passport to open a Bank Account.
There is now a Direct Banking option with the Bank Of Cyprus and this is recomended as each statement your receive will cost you.

buying a resale were the land has a title deed

Hi Nigel, We finally think we have found our home in the sun but can I ask your advice on the situation. The British couple selling the house first bought the land and have the land title deeds in their name. (I have seen this, all in Greek, but their name printed on it and have also seen another be...

Re: paying a deposit for your chosen property

"What I suggest you do is make the payment via a lawyer - and ask him/her to check out that everything's OK with the property (title, mortgage, etc) before handing it over to the vendor/agent." "Getting the money here from the UK is another 'problem'. It can take around 15 working days for a cheque ...
