Interest on Money
Hi Nigel, I used to understand this and now have become confused after chatting to too many people! If money I have invested in UK Bldg Soc will produce, say for example GB£1,000 interest, do I have to pay GB£100 to CY Gov for defence if I am registered for tax in CY? I cannot include it in my norma...

Re: Selling
Hi Nigel
Thanks - I will do that, although I am not actually thinking of selling, more curious but it is good to know these things.
Another question - when we bought the property we bought it in joint names (husand and I), would it be difficult to change add our son onto this 'ownership' ?

Selling
Hi Nigel This may sound a silly question but if you bought a property in CY£s and we are now in the euro, how do you work out the CGT? For example, if I bought for CY£100 and now sell for 200 euros, how much CGT will I owe after my allowance which used to be CY£10,00. I have made no improvements and...

Re: common areas
Hi
Further to this email, are the walls which form the boundaries to the pathways and stairs common areas also? Would we need to ask our neighbours permission before putting up a high trellis on top of the wall on our side? We do not have title deeds.

Mortgage Waiver
Hello Nigel A friend of ours in buying an apartment in Paphos. He is coming out in 2 weeks to make final payment and take over property. We have been answering some of his concerns and previously advised him to make sure there was no mortgage on the property. He now says his solicitor (who is indepe...

Roof
Hi Nigel We live in a ground floor apartment. In our block there are only 4 apartments. In English terms we would be a ground floor maisonette. The roof of the apartment diagonally above us has problems. There is nothing in our contract about the roof and repairs to the property are not covered by t...

Hi Nigel
Thanks for your quick reply. That was really helpful - just sorting ourselves out at the moment after the move.

Re: capital gains or VAT?
Hi Nigel
Do you have to pay a different rate of capital gains when you sell your property if it has been rented out rather than your first residence, even if you live in another property in Cyprus ? Will the builder charge more for title deeds etc if it is seen as an investment?

Re: Insurance of Communal Areas
Hi I contacted a large insurance company and they said yes, no problem by email next day. I then asked if we needed a licence to get insurance cover and everything went quiet. I contacted an insurance broker who immediately sent an application form but when I mentioned if there was a need for a lice...
