Re: Greek Crisis

Greece is unfortunately now doomed. It has no choice but to renage on the bailouts and will eventually leave the euro and the EU, Germany will see to that, if nothing else than as a lesson to the other debtor euro countries. The Cyprus banks are deeply into Greek debt along with the billions, nine w...

Re: Communal village taxes

Same problem here in Peyia. People have been told to pay what they say is a Town Tax. No bills are sent out and no receipts for payment are given. I questioned this payment on the basis that surely it is illegal for a goverment department to demand payment without a bill being sent out before hand. ...

Re: Cyprus Presidency of Europe

There is a Cyprus Law that properties cannot be legally occupied if they do not have a Final Clearance Certificate, a certificate that confirms that a property has been built to the agreed original design and meets the Cyprus building requirements, yes, they do exist. There, there are hundreds of th...

Re: Cyprus Presidency of Europe

I have suggested this before but it has never been taken up. A public open letter in the Cyprus Mail to the Attorney General requesting that as legislation is introduced to rectify the problem of the lack of title deeds, could he suspend the law, as an act of good faith, where it is illegal to occup...

Re: Cyprus Presidency of Europe

I would have thought more impact could be made by protesting right now that Cyprus is not a fit country to take on the Rotating Presidency, there is sufficient evidence to support it.

Cannot see the point of protesting when they are in the chair.

I wish you good luck.

Re: Structural Defects

Steve B. As far as I am aware, it is against the Cyprus Building Regulations, yes I know, to have drainage outlets that drain directly onto another property. Probably won't get you anywhere at the moment but when the day comes, yes I know, and regulations are enforced the owners will be forced to fi...

Re: Satellite provision for large development

Hello Julie,

There should be nothing stopping you putting in cable tv from say Primetel. The developer wouldn't probably even know you had it as it is delivered over normal telephone lines. OK, you wont get Sky but many people are happy with Primetel.

Just a thought.

Re: New Member

Buying in Kathikas. Lovely village up in the hills. Wonderful if you are fit and healthy and dont mind a reasonably long drive to the nearest big supermarket. We had friends who luckily rented there but they found it rather lonely in the winter and not much fun constantly driving into Peyia or Papho...

Re: Hi

Having been here for six years and know a little about the property market here. If I were buying again I would do what I did in the beginning and buy a resale with title deeds, or buy a piece of land first and then have a property built on it. If you do anything else you are in my humble opinion as...

Re: selling appartment

Hello Madmax, I brought my villa out here from another Brit and we did almost all of it in the UK. Depends if you have your title deeds! if you have then it can be done as you don't need to involve a developer or owner of the land. If you have your title deeds then you can do the legwork yourself. t...

Re: Signing a new contract with developer when buying a resale

Cliffyamo, I brought out here six years ago a resale with title deeds. So very glad I did. I followed the sound advice given to me. I brought from another Brit and we did the whole deal in Pounds Stirling, no loss on currency exchange, and used our UK lawyers, no Cypriot lawyers involved to cheat us...

Re: Signing a new contract with developer when buying a resale

Cliffyamo, Out of curiosity could I ask that with all the information now available on this site and other regarding the many pitfalls of purchasing a property without title deeds why you are considering this? Without title deeds you don't own the property Your UK lawyer wouldn't recommend you buy w...

Re: Purchasing a ReSale property

Hello Sunny, So many people in Cyprus are crying out for their title deeds, many have waited as long as fifteen years after the Developers made them promises after promises. Many Developers are in serious breech of contract in not giving purchasers their rightful Title Deeds. Their could be a lot mo...

Re: Certificate of Approval

Sheila, As Nigel will confirm, you cannot obtain title deeds until a Completion Certificate is issued or unless the developers can give you the official number of the Completion Certificate. Through this and other similar sites buyers are becoming much more aware of the trials and tribulations of bu...
