Selling my Cyprus property in GBP

Our property is up for sale, we are relocating back to the UK, we are aware we will take a loss and it could take years!

Given all that, is it possible to accept payment in sterling from a UK buyer into our UK account? I dont have a buyer yet ( if ever) and advertise via various property websites in the UK and Russia plus one or two thru europe, we need to bypass estate agents fees to minimise losses so are doing what we can to sell ourselves, I realise I need a conveyancing solicitor here and in the UK to act on our behalf but is there any regulations that would stop this?

Hi Sodyllt and welcome to the forum,

There is nothing to stop you selling the property in whatever currency you wish - but I suggest you get a decent lawyer in Cyprus to handle the conveyancing. The British High Commission publishes a list of lawyers who can help - you can find that list at http://ukincyprus.fco.gov.uk/en/help-fo ... ed-lawyer/

I guess you do not have your Title Deeds yet? If not, a new type of contract came into force last year - a 'vesting'/'assignment' contract. This enables you to bypass the developer when you sell.

Regards,

Thanks Nigel, just something to add to the advert in the UK websites at least.

Yes we have Title Deeds, we bought land and built on it. We have used Louise before here in Cyprus so we will use her again as we feel safe with her.

Thanks for the help on that.

That's precisely what we did! We got the deeds shortly after we bought the land and built on it when we finally moved here 10 years ago.
