New Law ???

Hello Nigel

Can you offer assistance please. It all started when I mentioned the D word, Divorce.

It it not true that I can, after getting the title deeds (still waiting after 7 Years) transfer the property into my wifes name.

The divorce is on hold until deeds isued. A lawyer in Cyprus has however informed us that I must get a lawyer immediaitely because a new law is coming into force soon which she states will effect me and my wife. She will not be specific after several requests. Is it just scare mongering or another avenue to make money. See below e-mail...

You were thinking to do a cancellation and would sign a new contract for the property you bought in Cyprus from the Developers However you decided finally that you did not want me to proceed with the above and you decided to leave things as they were so I was not appointed to act for you.

Please note that there is a law which comes into force and if people do not start a case at the court by a precise time then they lose their rights. So you need to appoint immediately a lawyer to check whether this law affects you and if there are any matters pending including the matter relating to you, your wife and the property above all the lawyer must deal with them immediately.

Any help will be welcomed, many thanks.

Excuse my french, but what the F*@$ is that lawyer talking about?

What law in relation to what.

Basically, if you have a contract with your current wife, safer all round if you wait for the title deeds. Since cacelling the contract and re-submitting to the LR could cause you problems if your developer has any mortgages on the land. Also unless your property is paid for, ie no mortgage, then it is unlikely the banks will allow it anyway.

Better to ask your lawyer to which law he refers to, I'd be interested to know.

Good Luck.

btw, is your lawyer E L??

Hello savvy and welcome to the forum.

I concur with Pan - your lawyer appears to be talking through an orifice normally reserved for another purpose. Wait until your deeds are issued.

Regards,

Mate, I know it feels like that, but the actions of a few do not make it all like that.

Certain lawyers / developers do need shooting, and if you happen to get caught up with them, is it madening, but, there are many a good people as well.

Seems a certain lawyer in Paphos has blackened it for many and its ashame she can get away with it.

And no they can't make it up as they go, some just try to get the business, but all you need to do is ask the right questions and you will know the score.

All the same, good luck with yours.
