Immovable property tax

I have read all the information about asking for proof of what the developer has paid in IPT and will be asking for proof and receipts ete.

One addition I would like to claify, in the letter accompanying my bill for IPT they have stated that if I choose not to pay until the transfer of title deeds I will be charged the interest and penalties that they have incurred imposed by the government, is this correct ?

It does state in my contract of sale that I am responsible for paying the IPT annually, if I ask for the information that you have suggested before I pay and they choose not to supply this to me where do I stand, am I legally obliged to pay even though they can't give me the correct figure etc.

Hi Cheryl and welcome to the forum.

The authorities impose penalties and add interest if people fail to pay their Immovable Property Tax. So if you did fail to pay your fair share, the developer could choose to transfer those penalty and interest charges onto you.

The information provided at http://www.news.cyprus-property-buyers. ... s/id=00517 has been compiled from legal opinion provided by one of the largest law firms in Cyprus. So if the developer refuses to provide you with the required information, I would have thought you would be in a good position legally.

Regards,

Thankyou Nigel, I will read think the link and when i go to see the developer make sure I have all the relevant info. I don't mind paying what I am suppose to pay but do not wish to pay charges that are inflated or that I can't claim back once title deeds are sorted.
