NOISE

Please could someone help! A restaurant next to us was granted a licence for an outdoor bar a couple of years ago and has now introduced live music twice a week which is relayed via a loudspeaker. It obliterates every other form of communication from within our apartment and can be heard for miles around. The area we live in is largely residential.
Is this allowed? If so, what are the legal parameters and what can we do about it?
This particular business has already paid fines for playing loud music but I imagine they will be weighing the cost of the fines against the profit from pulling in customers from a wider area.

Hi Pauline,

I suggest you complain to the Police if the noise is causing a nuisance.

Thanks, Nigel. That's certainly one thing we could try. I imagine it hinges on their definition of a nuisance.
Would the Municipality be prepared to intervene, do you think?

I'm not sure whether the Municipality would intervene - you could ask.
