Nigel, just as information to others, I purchased an apartment, on a development, off plan in 2006 with a Swiss France Mortgage through Alpha Bank. The property was completed in 2008 and I have been paying the mortgage ever since. When I retired in 2010 I moved to Cyprus permanently. I approached Alpha recently with a view to paying off the mortgage and they agreed to a discount of 16% off the balance. (I asked for 20%). They also agreed to give me a signed letter as a waiver should the developer go bust. This means that I am protected. The negotiating took place in August / September 2013. I hope this helps others in a similar situation.

I am with the Laiki but would welcome details too - I noticed on the said article that there was a deadline - what is this with regard to - I have taken my case to the Uk Ombudsman but early indications are that they will not cover.

I assume from stuff that I have read that the Cypriot Ombudsman will be of little use.

I would be interested in any further info….

Hi Nigel, I'm a newbie on this excellent and much needed site/forum. I'm also in the same unfortunate position as so many others in having a Swiss Franc mortgage with Alpha Bank which has left us struggling to keep up with the payments. We have approached Alpha Bank but they have not, as yet, been helpful or interested in helping us resolve the situation. Could you please send me the list too?
