If left untreated, damp can affect the steel reinforcing causing it to rust. As it rusts, it expands and the concrete structure may crack under the strain. This lets in more water and accelerates the problem.Vah wrote:I understand also that it is not dangerous re the structure!!!!
I know of two houses where his has happened. Both had to have the concrete chiselled away to expose the rebar - this was then treated to stop the rust. Both houses then had to be re-rendered and redecorated. An expensive job!
