what insurance is required when renting

Post by sailortaw »

Hi Louise, At present we do not have communal area nor public liability insurance due to no funds because of non payment by owner landlords not paying. can they legally rent their flats if there is not any insurance?
If so where can we go to enforce the rules? (obviously I am trying to use this as a means of getting them to pay up!)

Hi sailortaw and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately Louise is an infrequent visitor these days due to her workload.

Renting is a side issue. According to the law, the Management Committee must insure and always keep insured the commonly owned building against fire, lightning, and earthquake for a sum corresponding to its replacement value.

Unfortunately, the law makes no mention of Public Liability Insurance, but members of the Management Committee can be held liable should someone injure themselves - read the article at Insurance of Cyprus apartments & building complexes.
