Hi,

you will not receive any invoices, it is your responsibility (government passed the law in 2013) to go to the tax office, fill out the appropriate forms and the tax office will determine if you are liable or not.

Depending upon if it is in joint names and its value you may be exempt or may have to pay. If you have to pay you will also need to pay each year from 2013 - 2016. Since the IPT ceased in 2017.

Best to take your contract/title deed with you, it'll help.

Hi carlg and welcome to the forum

In addition to IPT that Pan has highlighted, which is payable to the tax department, there is also a local property tax payable to your local Municipality/Community. You'll need to visit the local office.
