Dear Nigel,
Friends of mine sold their apartment here in Paphos over 10yrs ago, and thought everything was all in order. Now they have decided to return and purchase a new one, but, have been told that they owe €3,600 sales tax from the previous one (not told at the time) They have now paid this, but told they must wait 180 days before they can purchase another, 'It's the law in Cyprus!' Is this correct?
Thanks in advance,
Terry

Re: Property purchase
Dear Terry
I suggest you contact your friend (or he could contact me) - there is no 'sales tax' in Cyprus. It could be 'Property Transfer Fees' or 'Capital Gains Tax' - definitely not 'sales tax'.
Has a lawyer advised him of this?
I'm not aware of any '180 day' law.
I assume he's an EU citizen?
