Lawyer Letters - Reasonable Fees

Hi,

What is a reasonable cost for the preparation and delivery of a lawyers letter to property owners in Limassol?

Our management committee has recently instructed a lawyer to prepare and delivery a number of letters to property owners in our building. These letters were sent to all owners who have either paid nothing or only paid part of their proportion required to complete a major building renovation project of the building.

For this the lawyer has charged Euro 150 plus VAT for each letter. Is this reasonable fee, given that each letter was almost identical with only the outstanding proportion in Euros changed?

Most of our owners have complained that Euro 150 plus VAT is excessive.

Regards

Dave B.

Hi Dave

I agree that €150/letter is excessive - I suggst that you committee complains to the Cyprus Bar Association - see http://www.cyprusbarassociation.org/v1/ ... ssive-fees

The Cyprus Bar Association mandates the minimum fees lawyers must charge (this is being challenged in the EC). You can find the relevant part of the law (in English) at http://www.news.cyprus-property-buyers. ... tions-.pdf (note that the Bar Association does not mandate maximum fees).

Of course if the lawyer is not a member of the Cyprus Bar Association you'll need to sue.

Regards,

This is why it is always important to get the price in writing before you engage such professions.

I think €150 to excessive, but its a bit late now I guess!
